Star Citizen Will Be PC Exclusive In The Foreseeable Future

In a lengthy forum post on the official Star Citizen website, Chris Roberts, creator of the crowd-funded space sim, delivered a brutally frank reasoning for the game not coming to consoles anytime soon.

After fans spotted images of a PS4 in the offices of the company’s CTO Jason Spangler, rumors abounded that the game was coming to PS4 instead of PC. Roberts took to the forums to explain that wasn’t the case, in no uncertain terms:

“Star Citizen IS a PC game. It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.”

This may sound confrontational and dismissive of console hardware, but Roberts clarified his statements. While Star Citizen will never come to PS3 or Xbox 360, he is open to considering PS4 and Xbox One versions of Star Citizen “if Sony or Microsoft are willing to be open”, and “if they allow our community to openly interact with each other across platforms.”

Roberts cited the ambition behind Star Citizen to push the boundaries in terms of hardware and graphics benchmarks as a reason for his distancing himself from consoles initially. Roberts stressed that despite great interest from Sony, there are no current plans for a PS4 or Xbox One version of Star Citizen.
