Although it is too early to tell, Microsoft’s Xbox One console has seen to be struggling already against Sony’s PS4. Microsoft have promised ‘true HD’ for their new next-gen titles, yet recent gameplay footage for both Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts display at 720p resolution, a standard set by current gen consoles.
Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts was running at 1280 x 720p resolution whilst the PS4 plays at 1080p native. Both titles did run at 60 frames per second, yet it seems perhaps that this standard could not be met at higher resolutions. This is also following a devastating comparison by Eurogamer on the next-gen version of Battlefield 4. The Xbox One version was once again running at 720p compares to the PS4’s 900p at 60 fps.
Does this mean that the 1080p native promises are nothing but a dream? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
