Dark Matter was launched on Kickstarter earlier this year, bu the campaign failed to reach its intended goals. Some developers pressed on, however, and released a version of the game last week.
GOG.com were offering players a refund due to a misleading description, but now the final nail has been hammered into the game’s coffin. A 2D, Metroid-esque action game, the game apparently ends incredibly abruptly, to the point where players wondered if the game was released in a completely unfinished state. Apparently Steam and GOG have agreed with this sentiment and have pulled the game from their stores.
The game ends with a “to be continued” message as it was originally planned to be episode 1 of an episodic series. However, after the game’s Kickstarter failed earlier in the year, the staff working on the game were mostly laid off. The plan was to use the money raised from the sales of Episode 1 and create episode 2.
A rumour is currently churning in the rumour mill that the game will be finished by a separate developer.
