Valiant Hearts: The Great War Dev: ‘It’s Not the Number of Polygons That Make you Laugh or Cry’

When looking at Valiant Hearts: The Great War it is hard to peg exactly what is so alluring about it. For the IP development director Adrian Lacey, style and individuality have a large role to play here. She comments. “The styling has opened up different things where traditional, say a core shooter, may not be as appealing towards women or older people. Here it’s actually; we are seeing it actually appeals to a very wide audience. It also allows us to explore ways to communicate with people and bring new horizons to games.”

Unlike any world war I/II shooter Valiant Hearts is setting out to win you over with its characters, not the violence. Themes such as passion, caring and determination will come to the fore here. As for many titles that go down this path, much of the games success hinges on the appeal of the characters within the world.

“It’s not the number of polygons that make you laugh or cry. And I think we’ve proven that with Valiant Hearts.” Noted Lacey, “I love a super realistic game, I can’t deny it, but I think you can also have the other way. It’s like a book or movies it doesn’t always have to be that AAA blockbuster to give you an emotional attachment.”

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is set for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2014. Would you be interested in a unique title such as this? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
