DICE have told OMX that they will be bringing in female multiplayer characters, but the developer need to work out how much it would have to “sacrifice” before going fully co-ed.
The franchisers executive producer, Patrick Bach, has said “We have been talking about it quite a lot. We’ve been looking at how much it’s worth, compared to how much we’d have to sacrifice.”
“Because it’s quite complicated, It’s not just [creating] the actual character models, it’s all the voice-over work.”
“If we do it, we’ll do it right, not just to tick a box or something.” Bach explains.
With Call of Duty: Ghosts already promising their first female multi-player characters on the games release, is Battlefield falling behind the mark?
“…without trying to over-simplify it, because I do think that there are certain components of inherent sexism in terms of game protagonists these days- the way it gets dealt with the best… is just by honestly putting a character in the game that you feel passionate about.” He said earlier this year.
Sexism with female protagonists became a sore point just a few weeks ago with Metal Gear Solid V’s newest character ‘Quiet’ whose design could be seen as over-sexualised.
Battlefield 4 will be launched on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 29th, and will start bringing it to next generation on November 12th.
