Assassins Creed 4 – Progression System and Gameplay Content Released

A common gripe with the Assassins Creed series is that it simply does not provide enough of a challenge. Yesterday Ubisoft responded to these comments with a reveal of the progression system. Whilst one on one combat will follow the same pattern as before naval combat looks to initiate some difficult moments. For example if you face a Man-of-War British warship you will likely get wrecked by its superior cannons and speed. However, over time with the right armor and weapon upgrades your pirate ship can be altered into a terrifying death machine. Assassin’s Creed 4 Director Ashraf Ismail had this to say on the new system:

“Having the Jackdaw allows us to have a really deep progression system. We have a lot of different weapons with a lot of upgrades. This really ties everything together. It gives a reason to travel the world. It gives us a reason to find collectibles.”

It is a system that also promotes travel and exploration as you set out across the Caribbean to find new collectibles and treasure maps that will lead to all more exciting booty.  “At some point you’ll look back and realize you just spent the last two hours going to this place and that place and killing this guy and attacking this ship,” Ismail explains. “It’s so natural. I think that’s one of the coolest things we have in the game.”

This customization also applies to Edward himself who, as a pirate can master and wield nearly anything he can his hands on. Weapons may also be re-forged and altered to increase their damage output. Health, once a permanent sum amount in earlier editions of Assassins Creed can now also be upgraded overtime to give Edward more sustain in fights.

The multiplayer is also quickly becoming a beast all of its own with several videos displaying the content at work, be sure to check it out below!!

As for the story line, why not have a little look at the Edward Kenway plotline?
