The continued existence of Grand Theft Auto Online is still a bumpy experience. After advising players not to save over the slots of disappeared characters due to failing cloud saves, Rockstar have stated today that lost characters and progress are gone for good.

Rockstar made this announcement on their official site, stating “for those asking about their lost characters or rank, those will not be able to be restored“. To make up for this Rockstar is giving players a major cash injection in the form of $500,000 of in game currency. Many players feel this will break the balance of the game or take away part of the fun from earning in game rewards that could be bought with the money.
