Bethesda Softworks and Zenimax Media today announced that it is opening up and publishing office in Sydney, Australia. Sales, marketing and distribution for all Bethesda titles in both Australia and New Zealand will be overseen from here.

Bethesda’s parent company Zenimax highlights the growing importance of the Australian market, and the Asia Pacific region too.

The managing director of the new office is Simon Alty, who helped launch The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim among others.

Given Australia’s aversion to mature titles, the new venture should allow a smoother entry into the market for upcoming Bethesda-published titles The Evil Within, a gory survival horror game, and Wolfenstein: The New Order, a mature shooter featuring Nazi iconography. It will be interesting to see how the new Australian post pans out.
