The Xi3 Piston is a small PC designed for use in the living room and will be released in the US on November 29th, with those who preorder the device receiving their delivery up to two weeks earlier “on or before November 15”. The Piston will come with a number of games pre-installed, although specific titles are yet to be revealed, and will see prices starting at $999. The Xi3 Piston’s specs will be as follows:
- A quad-core 3.2 GHz AMD Trinity processor
- Radeon 7000-Series GPU
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB SSD (solid-state drive)
Optionally consumers can get upgraded storage in the form of two 512GB SSDs. The Xi3 supports up to three displays simultaneously and can support up to a 4K-resolution (4096×2160 pixels).
“PISTON is smaller, lighter, and will last longer, provide more gaming options and be more powerful than any other gaming console on the planet,” claims Xi3 founder and CEO, Jason Sullivan.
“The reason I feel confident in saying this is because we started with a clean slate, unlike competing manufacturers. And that Tabula Rasa approach is what sets PISTON apart from other gaming systems today and what will set us apart tomorrow,” he added.
With the piston essentially being a customisable PC for the living room, the newly announced SteamOS and Steam Controller will most likely companion the console perfectly. For more information on the Xi3 Piston check out the trailer below.
