Creators of Killzone Working on New IP

Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, lead designer at Guerrilla Games, Eric Boltjes, confirmed that the studio has begun work on a new IP. Boltjes said,

“As a studio we do want to branch out, and we have started work on a new IP, something completely different to Killzone. I don’t want to say anything about it right now, but as a studio we do want to keep it fresh.”

Perhaps the studio is working on a game with a completely different genre, as the Killzone series has almost always been a 1st-person shooter. The series’ latest installment, Killzone: Shadow Fall, will be a PS4 launch title this November, and is one of the year’s most hotly anticipated shooters. Perhaps we will see a 3rd-person action game or even a platfomer from the studio.

Boltjes also briefly offered insight into the creative process of a new game:

“So about three to four months before you ship, the designers sit down and think, what can we do for the next one.”

Apparently they sat down and thought that it’s time for new IP. After 9 years of the Killzone franchise, the studio would do well to take a break from Killzone.  Details are still scarce, but the new game will most likely end up exclusively on PS4, considering that Guerrilla Games has been making Sony exclusives since the first Killzone was released on PS2 way back in 2004. It will be interesting to see what they’ve got planned, and whether or not it will change genres.
