Shuhei Yoshida: No Move to Place PS4 Remote Play on Smartphones or Tablets

 With Sony’s creation of a PlayStation App and the aim to bring the Gaikai cloud service to both PC and smart devices many have now come to the conclusion that Sony would now move the remote play feature to smartphones and tablets. However this does not seem to be the case.

On Twitter today a user asked SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida the following question.

Q: Hello Yoshida-san! Since the PS Vita can play almost all PS4 games with remote play, are there any plans to allow remote play by connecting the DualShock 4 to smart devices in the future? I got very excited at the thought when I realized it.

The reply to this was;

A: There are no plans.

There is a sense of perplexity as to why PlayStation would not make this move into the mobile market but some have concluded that there is business sense to this lack of investment into mobile gaming. With the Remote Play based entirely around the PS Vita and PS4 connection it makes sense that it should not be optional on other products to prevent sales being divided among several consoles. Focusing majority sales on the PS Vita would help a mobile handheld device which has struggled in recent months.
