The story for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is a little complicated. While Final Fantasy XIII itself wasn’t overly complicated, XIII-2 added time travel and everything got weird. The basic summary involves the death of Lightning’s sister Sarah and the ending of time brought about by the death of the Goddess Etro. Square Enix sure does love convoluted story-lines to keep the fans intrigued.
Coming out next February in western territories, Lightning Returns will be out on Xbox 360 and PS3. With players controlling Lightning once again, she is tasked with being the “savior” of the dying world, how she is meant to do that however is a bit of a mystery. The vagueness of the Gods seems to be a running theme throughout the Final Fantasy XIII canon.
