SNK-playmore have now released the latest entry in its 2D fighting series on Steam. The game was originally released on consoles in 2011, and has since been updated with new characters. Crucially, this version of the game – entitled The King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition – includes all the DLC characters from the console versions from the get go. This includes “Mr. Karate”, “Iori with the Power of Flames” and “NESTS- style Kyo”, bringing the total roster up to 36 characters.
For the uninitiated, the King of Fighters series has been around since 1994, and is a highly technical 2D pixel-art fighting game with superior animation, 3-on-3 team battles, and immense screen-filling super moves. King Of Fighters XIII continues this tradition and is widely regarded as one of the best in the series.
What’s probably the most important thing about this new version is the vastly improved netcode. The original console version sometimes suffered from crippling lag during online play, and this new iteration seeks to put an end to the latency-based misery that plagued the game’s original release.
The King Of Fighters XIII Steam Edition is out now on, well, Steam – for £22.99. Will you be picking this up? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
