Never one for keeping quiet, Microsoft’s most prominent public figure on the internet has come out in defence of Albert Penello’s recent statements about the alleged power differences between the Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4. Penello said that “There is no way we’re giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony” in regards to the current rumours and speculation over the capabilities of the two machines.
Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson supported Penello on Reddit, saying he was “one of the most amazing people” he worked with. Nelson went on to say:
“That’s why I invited him on my podcast a few weeks ago. I jab him a bit about posting on ‘GAF (fact: they would not approve my account of there) but he’s smart and driven. He’s also right: We have some of smartest programmers in the world working on Xbox One. I am very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out.”
Microsoft are being very coy about admitting that Sony’s PlayStation 4 is the more powerful machine and whilst their refusal to give a straight answer on the matter is in itself a confirmation of sorts, it also seems likely that the gap is nowhere near what it is being touted as by some arm-chair hardware developers. We’ll know the truth soon enough either way, with both consoles now having a fixed release date. The PlayStation 4 will launch in North America on the 15th November and in all other launch markets on the 29th, whilst Microsoft’s Xbox One will launch in it’s 13 launch countries simultaneously on the 22nd November. Round three, FIGHT.
