The Video Games Live concerts have always been a fan-favourite, with their live orchestral recreations of some of gaming’s best musical themes playing to sell-out gigs. The next step for the group is to release a new album to follow up the previous efforts Video Games Live and Level 2. Unsurprisingly called Video Games Live: Level 3, the group announced that it would be including music from Skyrim, Diablo III and World of Warcraft.
The album is currently in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign for funding, so head on over if you’re willing to pledge – the campaign is currently at $169,000 out of its $250,000 goal, which ends in 7 days.
From Skyrim, a new performance of the song “Dragonborn” – which already saw an epic live orchestral performance at E3 in 2012 – is going to be included on the album. The theme has garnered a cult following since before Skyrim’s release, usually accompanied by cries of “fus-ro-dah!” so fans should be pleased to see its inclusion.
Diablo III – which saw its console debut this week – is also seeing a new arrangement for recording. Staying with Blizzard, “Invincible” from World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King will be getting a new arrangement too.
The album has so far announced musical arrangements from a huge number of games, from Shadow of the Colossus to Uncharted, and so should be a very good listen on release.
