Today at Gamescom, Bethesda have announced more details on their upcoming title Wolfenstein: The New Order. This visit back to the series that started the FPS genre is under development by Machine Games, a team of developers recognised for their work on story-driven games. This means that The New Order will offer a deep narrative and, staying true to the series’ roots, first-person combat.

Powered by id Software’s id Tech 5 engine, Wolfenstein: The New Order will see players taking on the Nazi’s and their “mysterious advanced technology” across Europe in an alternate version of the 1960’s. You play as war hero B.J. Blazkowicz, an American who has just awoken from a 14 year coma to discover that the Nazis have won World War II, as you attempt to rewrite history and stop the Nazis.

Featuring cinematic set-pieces, intense first-person combat and the stunning back drop of the alternate universe 1960’s, Wolfenstein: The New Order will be one to watch for FPS fans as we see where the game that started a genre ventures into new territory. Wolfenstein: The New Order is set for release in 2014 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
