ArenaNet, the development team behind the Guild Wars franchise have today announced that their MMORPG Guild Wars 2 has ranked in as the fastest selling MMORPG in Europe and North America. This data comes from DFC Intelligence, a strategic market research and consulting firm, with the territorial sales of Guild Wars 2 topping over 3 million during it’s first 9 months on the market.

This is amazing news for the MMO as analyst David Cole from DFC Intelligence states when speaking of Guild Wars 2’s expansion into China,

 “After triangulating against multiple data sources, it’s clear that Guild Wars 2 is the fastest-selling Western MMO of all time based on the first nine months of availability. This puts Guild Wars 2 in an impressive position when they release in China, where we’ve seen similar franchises really take off”.

With the release in China on the horizon, with help from KongZhong Corporation to localise for the Chinese populace, things keep looking better for ArenaNet with the expectation of rapid growth when the Chinese playerbase get there hands on it.

Also announced from ArenaNet is news of a free trial for new players. For those yet to experience Guild Wars 2, you can create an account on the Guild Wars 2 website and participate in the trial period ranging between Friday 23rd August and Monday 26th August.
