Cryptozoic has announced 3 new board games based on several franchises from film TV & video games. The first of which is the follow up to the 2011 release of The Walking Dead. Entitled The Walking Dead: The Best Defense, the game is a co-operative experience where players must work together to survive hordes of Walkers. The game is set to be released during Q4 2013, and will be playable at board game trade show Gen Con, where the game’s lead designer Matt Hyra will be in attendance.
The second announcement from Cryptozoic is Ender’s Game: Battle School. A card game based on the the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of the sci-fi novel, the game pits two players against each other in the Battle School, with players representing the Dragon Team and the Salamander Team. Each player moves their team around a zero gravity arena in an attempt to capture the other team’s gates or to freeze members of the opposing team with their laser-light guns. Like the Walking Dead it is expected to be released in Q4 2013.
The final announcement of the three is that of Assassin’s Creed: Arena. The board game looks to take elements from the game series, including assassinations and stealth. Players will have to deal with some pesky guards, as well as each other. Players will collect cards and treasure, move guards, and hide within the city of Constantinople until they find their time to strike. Combat is handled through cardplay, and the player who best manages their cards will have the best chance at victory. This game is expected to launch this winter.
