Tropes Vs Women In Video Games: Part 3 Is Out Now Amid Further Twitter Abuse

Anita Sarkeesian, polarizing feminist figure, has released the third part in the Tropes vs Women in Video Games series. This part covers women as they are portrayed in the indie games and mods.

While Sarkeesian’s work has garnered a large amount of ire in the gaming community, other believe it is a conversation well worth having. Somewhere in the messy haze of vitriolic hate, argument and counter-argument there are many fine points to make, but they are lost under a pile of disgusting abuse and despicable behavior. At the very least can we agree that the discussion of the concept is valid, even if you disagree with it?

Sarkessian has recently been under abuse on Twitter again through the Feminist Frequency feed. Reporting the usual horrid torrents of torture, murder and rape to Twitter, the response to each was an emphatic “The account is currently not in violation of the Twitter Rules.” How reassuring.

The responses to this issue range from telling her to “get out the kitchen if you can’t stand the heat” to supportive. With twelve planned episodes to this series, this issue is not going away anytime soon. Dig in, get comfy and prepare for a long winter.

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? How do you find this episode compared to the last? Let us know in the comments.
