The Smurfs 2 Launches With A Smurftastic Trailer

I may have to kill myself for saying Smurftastic. Ubisoft have announced that The Smurfs 2, the video game based on the Columbia Pictures’ and Sony Pictures Animation’s film, is available from today for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U.

The Smurfs 2 video game is a combination of action-adventure and platform gaming across over 30 levels in 6 environments. The player can play as one of the nine Smurfs, with four starter choices and five further smurfs as unlockable extras, including such classics as Jokey Smurf (who the fudge is this guy), Smurfette (OK her I’ve heard of) or Brainy Smurf (Might remember him…maybe).

The Smurfs’ adventure will take them first to the main locations visible in the film, including Paris and the Enchanted Forest before continuing onto environments exclusive to the video game such as the Spooky Woods, Arctic Tundra and the Lava Jungle (that makes so little sense, surely all the trees would have burned down? I give up). The full adventure is playable cooperatively up to 4 players (5 players on Wii U…you know, if you happen to be the five people that own a Wii U). Here’s the official launch trailer:

Players will meet and collect another 20 different Smurf friends through the game and send them to the Smurf Village. Players must also defeat foes, facing against 12 different types of enemies and 6 bosses, including Azrael the cat and Gargamel.

Exclusive on Wii U, a fifth player is able to join in on the action by controlling Clockwork Smurf on the Wii U GamePad to help friends and drop special items. It’s nice to see third party developers using the Wii U tablet I suppose, though it remains to be seen how well this is implemented. For more information on The Smurfs 2 video game, visit www.TheSmurfsGame.com.

Personally this looks about as fun as a colonoscopy, but I’m hardly the target audience. Will you be picking it up and if so is it for you or your child? Let us know in the comments below.
