Animal Crossing: New Leaf Launch Helps Nintendo 3DS Repeat As Best-Selling Platform

The Nintendo 3DS console has sold nearly 225,000 units in June and finished by becoming the best selling video game system in the U.S for its second month in a row. A solid launch for Animal Crossing: New Leaf and additional titles such as Donkey Kong Country Return 3D helped sales of the Nintendo 3DS hardware and software by more than 40% and nearly 105% over the same time last year.

Some of the highlights of Nintendo’s sales are as follows below.

  • In the first 6 months of 2013, Nintendo sold nearly 3.6 million combined physical and digital units of first party 3DS software. This was a 85% increase over from last year.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf sold more that 505,000 combined units in June with 20% of these sales being through the digital Nintendo eShop. 
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D sold more than 108,000 combined units.
  • Luigi’s Mansion soled a combined unit of 115,000.
  • Overall Nintendo had the three of the top five best selling SKU’s in the month of June.

The Nintendo force might not stop as in August more games are set to be released on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS with games like Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and many more.
