Borderlands 2 finally ends its campaign DLC collection with the arrival of Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep as well as the newest addition to the Vault Hunter roster, Krieg. We managed to get hands on time to play the DLC before its release and we have some great experiences to share with you. So without further ado, let’s roll for initiative and enter the world of Bunkers & Badasses.
The board game the Vault Hunters play together is a take on the classic table top adventures of Dungeons and Dragons. Players will be placed into the world as if they were characters pieces on a giant board and they are tasked to explore the land and save the princess captured by the Handsome Wizard. On your journey you will encounter familiar faces, as almost all the original Vault Hunters from the first Borderlands as well as cameos from the sequel. Tiny Tina will constantly be giving you narration as the ‘Dungeon Master’ of the game and will occasionally change things within the world on the fly to match the narrative.
The world you explore is truly amazing. Everything from the enemies, ranging from skeletal warriors to orcish warlords, to the landscapes, changing from ‘The Shack of Infrequent Walks’ to ‘The Forest of Being Eaten Alive By Trees’, are great to experience. Don’t expect the campaign to be a simple walk in the park though, as you will encounter a variety of enemies that truly put your skills to the test. Even with a maxed out character, we were having a tough time fending off against some of the campaigns first badasses.
As well as experiencing the campaign, we were also given the chance to try out Krieg, the new berserker turned Vault Hunter. If you want a new challenge then Krieg is the man for you as his focus in fights is very different to others. His three tech trees are built around how much damage you are receiving, whether it is affecting your health, shields or what element is on you. For example, one of his tech trees allows you to burst into flames randomly during a fight. However, if you are on fire you get a huge array of buffs that increase your damage output as well as create more mind blowing mayhem around you. You also have the ability to breathe fire.
Through the experience of playing as Krieg, we all agreed that he was truly a great new addition to the team. Now you have a massive array of different playable characters to choose from with their own ways of fighting enemies and creating chaos. Krieg will be a challenge to both new and seasoned players as he is built completely differently to anything anyone has seen before in the Borderlands series. But if you take enough time to play as Krieg and perfect his moves, you can truly become one of the deadliest forces on Pandora.
It is sad to see the last DLC coming to an end in Borderlands 2, as it has been a truly amazing experience to play. All we can hope is that the folks at Gearbox keep up with the good work and possibly move towards working on Borderlands 3 for the next generation of games consoles and of course PC.
What do you guys think about the DLC. Do you find the game of Bunkers and Badasses an awesome idea? Do you think Krieg is a great addition to the playable roster? Let us know what you think down in the comments and be sure to try out the DLC when they become available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
