Trading Card Beta Access Could be Coming to Steam

A listing for “Steam Trading Card Beta” has appeared online along with an image for what appears to be a logo for a “Steam Trading Card Beta” (As seen below).

It is unclear yet as to what this means but could Steam be getting a TCG? Or is it something more simplistic than that? Just what the heck are Valve up to?
