EA And Disney Team Up On New Star Wars Games

Announced yesterday, EA and Disney have acquired the licence to create Star Wars Games. The publishing giant EA will be allocating games to developers whilst Disney will be concentrating on a more handheld related route.

EA will be giving three development companies the reigns of the licence. DICE and Visceral are getting their hands dirty with new game ideas as well as Bioware, since they have been successful with the licence before with Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic.

Many people are speculating whether EA will be capitalising on the two Star Wars games that have gone on hiatus, Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault. EA have come out saying that they have no current plans with the licence as of yet, so these games could still be lost in the far reaches of space.

On a further note, some people are curious about whether the two companies also capitalised on the Indiana Jones licence from Lucas Arts. EA have responded to this by announcing that they have strictly acquired the Star Wars licence and nothing more. If anyone was looking for a Lara Croft style Indiana Jones game any time soon, you will have to wait a bit longer.

So what are your impressions on the licence being taken by EA and Disney? Will they take their new games on an epic journey or will they crash land on Endor? Let us know what you think in the comments below and voice what games you think EA and Disney should create in the VGU Forums.
