After the success of last year’s campaign, which saw over 25 million votes and eventually led to victory for Philadelphia Flyers’ Captain Claude Giroux, EA games and the NHL have announced the 2nd annual cover vote for the upcoming title, NHL14. Fans will have a choice from 60 candidates who will compete in a single elimination tournament from the 22nd – 28th April, with team mate vs team mate until the final 32 competitors. Then it’s a free for all with the top 16 most voted for between April 29th – May 5th advancing into the top 16 playoffs which last a whopping 20 days from the 6th – 26th May, culminating in the final on May 27th – Jun 2nd. Any longer and the voting season would have lasted longer than the hockey season. The winner will be announced during the Stanley Cup final. Both EA and NHL spokespeople have been doing their best to stir up the crowd.
“We look forward to our fans’ creativity and incomparable passion in driving another record setting vote count and ultimately determining who will grace the cover of NHL®14 worldwide.” said Dave McCarthy, NHL Vice President Consumer Products Marketing.
“Players who have graced the EA SPORTS NHL cover in the past have historically had banner years in the season that followed,” said Dean Richards, General Manager, EA SPORTS NHL. “Patrick Kane scored the Stanley Cup winning goal in 2010, Steven Stamkos notched a league-leading 60 goals in 2012 and Claude Giroux becoming the Captain of the Philadelphia Flyers this season. We’re looking forward to see which fans step up to get their player on the cover of NHL 14.”
So what are you waiting for, head over to the voting site now and cast your vote. Fans can also double their voting power by using player specific hashtags on “Twitter Vote Thursdays.”
