All good things must come to an end, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the best of things. After one massive world, three DLC packs, and a particularly unstoppable meme, Bethesda is calling it a day on Skyrim development. No more DLC, no more huge updates. That is it. Done.
In a rather heartfelt post on the Bethesda blog, found here, the team has decided it is time to move on to other projects. Part of the team is moving to their “next major project” which we will hopefully hear from soon. Perhaps it is the next Fallout title, who knows.
Smaller patches will still be rolled out on an “as needed” basis, which hopefully shouldn’t happen too often. Even after nearly two years it still has a fair share of bugs to iron out. Nothing is perfect however, so you have to draw the line somewhere.
It is refreshing to see a dev studio in touch with their fanbase enough to send them the equal of a goodbye letter. It must come with the high standards the studio adheres to.
