Frostbite 3 and Unreal 4 Engines confirmed to never appear on the Wii U

“We don’t want to back down from what we see as our low-spec machines” says Battlefield executive producer Patrick Bach at GDC this year. This comment is in regards to whether the Frostbite 3 engine will have support for the Nintendo Wii U. As well as the Wii U, these low-spec machines include the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360.

Frostbite 3, Battlefield 4’s new engine, will be available for PC and next-generation consoles though (so the Playstation 4 and new Xbox console). He went on to say “The Wii U is not part of our focus now”

Unreal Engine 4 has also been confirmed for next-generation releases. If you want to make a Wii U game, we have Unreal Engine 3, and it’s powering some of the best games on the Wii U already” said Mark Rein, Epic’s vice-president.

So to sum it up, new engines seem to be set on focussing on next-generation consoles rather than trying to hit every console. What do you think to this, should the new engines make an appearance on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, or should they be kept for the next generation of gaming? Let us know with a comment below.
