Cloud Networking enhances the Playstation 4 in a big way

Gaikai, the company bought by Sony in 2012, is bringing Cloud gaming to the Playstation 4 in a whole new way.

“What we’re creating is the fastest most powerful gaming network in the world” says Gaikai’s Dave Perry, who presented the Cloud details at the Playstation Conference. The Cloud is going to affect gaming in several ways:

– You can play games while they are downloading as the Playstation 4 downloads part of the game, enough to start playing. You can check out more details for it in our other article.

– You also have the ability to try a game BEFORE you buy it, as well as share your games with other people. This is great as it means you won’t potentially waste money on a game that seemed a good idea at the time, but you will never play.

– Gaikai have also teamed up with Facebook and Ustream to create a “social network with gaming… dedicated to gaming.” This means that, by pressing the Share button, your friends can spectate the game over your shoulder from their own home. If you’re stuck then friends can share their advice, can give you tips if they’re more of an expert player and can even trash talk you. These comments will appear on your screen, if you let them.

As well as these, the Playstation Vita will become the Playstation 4’s best friend. This allows you to transfer your game between the two consoles, effectively turning the Vita into a controller and a screen with the PS4 taking the processing job.

Sony are also working on getting ALL of your games working with this Remote Play, from the Playstation 1 generation to the future of games hitting this console. This will be rolled out in phases, including Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. Imagine how great this will be if it comes to fruition?
