Ghost in the Shell is one of the most influential anime movies, and it is getting an online shooter.
With three movies, two TV series and a recently announed prequel it is no wonder numerous attempts to capture to sleek style of the show have been attempted. It is arguable though if any of these attempts have been a success. With a PS1 game that had the player control none of the main cast and two barely controllable shooters, the new game has a bit of a history to shake off.
Over at Famitsu early details about Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Online have surfaced during a press-conference. The game will be a PC first-person online shooter with players in “fierce hacking battles between cyborgs fighting over strategic resources”. Other features mentioned include co-op and interesting AI elements.
It appears to have the members of section 9 facing against a terrorist group that will hopefully exude as much personality as the squad the series follows. If not is there much reason to play as them? Over time more details about the opposing squad will be released as the game gets closer to the hopeful early 2014 release date.
