Dead Space 3 item exploit negates micro-transactions [Updated]

Crafty players have managed to find an exploit in Dead Space 3 that can be used to farm unlimited resources. This means that you can completely avoid the micro-transactions.

The micro-transaction system allows you to exchange real world money for in-game resources, which are in turn used to craft bigger and better weapons.

The glitch (which involves entering and leaving a room) can spawn these resources, or can also offer a health or stasis pack. You can actually see a video of the glitch below (thanks to GameFront).

[UPDATE]

While it has been suggested that EA create a patch for the resource farming glitch, the publisher is actually ok with this exploit. Why I hear you ask? EA has said that it gives players the option to farm resources, while the micro-transactions are simply a convenience item. Think of it as a method for the lazier gamers. In fact, EA have claimed that this glitch was no accident and that the game was designed with optional farming scenarios in mind.

“The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch. We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We’ve deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game. For those that wish to accumulate upgrades instantly, we have enabled an optional system for them to buy the resources at a minimal cost.”

While there is no other proof whether this was a design mistake or a choice, it looks like the glitch is here to stay. What do you guys think? Have you actually used the glitch yet? Leave us a comment.
