Activision has announced today that the Skylanders franchise has gone over $500 million in retail sales in the US,inclusive of accessory packs and figures. The franchise has successfully made it to it’s milestone faster than any other kids’ gaming property. On top of this, the figures for both Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Giants have outsold the top action figure lines in the US including Beyblades, WWE Wrestlers and Star Wars.
Vice president of consumer marketing, John Coyne, had this to say “Just a year ago, the concept of bringing toys to life in a virtual world was an untested play pattern that activision and Toys For Bob believed in. Now the category has been established in the market and embraced by parents and kids everywhere”.
As well as this great milestone goal that has been reached, Skylanders Giants was also awarded the National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval & also nominated in four categories for the “2013 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards”.
The franchise seems to be booming and nothing is looking to stand in it’s way. Do you think the success of this franchise will keep growing bigger or do you think it will start to shrink downward? Be sure to post your views in the comments.
