Yoshitaka Amano Creates Unique Artwork for Child of Light

World-renowned Japanese illustrator, Yoshitaka Amano, has partnered up with the Child of Light team to create a beautiful yet haunting piece of artwork inspired by the game. In the video above, you can watch the master diligently at work.

Most well-known for his contributions to the Final Fantasy series, Amano’s work captures a unique elegance and fluidity that many artists struggle to replicate. Perfectly suited for the whimsical world of Lemuria, this collaboration seems a match made in heaven. That said, as stunning as Amano’s work is, it is often very dark in tone. This darkness becomes strikingly apparent in the painting, as a little princess with blood-red hair surrounded by shadows and ghouls is a huge contrast to the Child of Light game footage and concept art we have seen so far.

Amano summed up his vision for the painting, stating “When a child is born she must fight against the challenges of the world she lives in. That’s what I wanted to express.” True to his intentions, it is very clear to see just what frightening trials lie in wait for young Aurora.

An A2 poster of the artwork will be available with Deluxe Editions of Child of Light, which is due for release on April 30th. For more information on the game, be sure to check out the official website.
