Xbox One Will Not Support External Storage At Launch

The Xbox One comes with a 500GB harddrive which is irreplacible. In May, Microsoft announced that you would be able to plug in external storage devices to expand on the 500GB harddrive. Microsoft have now confirmed that this feature will not be available at launch.

“The future plan is for definitely to support external storage much like we do on the Xbox 360,” Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb said during a podcast conducted during PAX Prime. “My understanding is that feature will not be there at launch because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list. I don’t know when it will come in though.”

Whilst it may be disappointing that this feature will not be there at launch, the fact that Microsoft intend to implement it gives them a one up in the console race to their main rivals, Sony, who have said that the PS4 will not allow the usage of an external harddrive via twitter.
