VGU Talks – Destiny Vs Warframe Round 3: Taken King vs Echoes of the Fallen
In previous instalment of VGU Talks you may have seen me voice my opinions on which game is better between Bungie’s Destiny and Digital Extremes’ Warframe. Both have their own fan followings and both are getting big updates with The Taken King Expansion and the Echoes of the Fallen Update (Update 17). Today I look at both instalments of future content and voice my opinions on what I prefer.
First with Destiny. The game has lost a lot of ground with me ever since the last time I talked about it. The game to this day still feels lack lustre, unrewarding and overall boring in comparison to that of Warframe. With the last two expansions not feeling very strong as well as even not including core content such as raids etc, the game itself has pushed me further and further away rather than pull me back in. With the original announcement of the Taken King, I was impressed to see that Destiny was getting the update it finally deserved. New armour and weapons coupled with an overhaul to levelling as well as more content for raids and the campaign. However, after reading up about peoples experiences with the expansion during Gamescom 2015, I can say that again it doesn’t seem all that interesting. There is truly nothing in the expansion that is making me want to go back onto Destiny and revitalise my characters that I spent hours levelling and finding good equipment for. As much as you may improve upon it, overall it still seems very boring content wise and is pushing me away even more.
On the contrast however, Warframe is doing all in it’s power to impress and excite me when it comes to content. Update 17 is already available on the PC version and it has changed the game for the better. The overhaul of parkour has eliminated the need to take certain weapons with you to propel yourself around the map and has instead encouraged you to take any and all varieties of melee weapons with you into battle. This has also removed stamina and has given us tenno a new and exciting way to traverse the tile sets rather than just running and flinging. Arch-wing has also been made better with the update on Uranus that now allows you to seamlessly transition between Arch-wing and Warframe when you jump in and out of water. We also have a brand new Warframe in the way of Equinox, new weapons and a newly remastered boss fight with Tyl Regor. There is even more content brought into the game thanks to the update which has just added plenty of hours of more fun for us players. It is just a shame to see that whilst one game is winning me over, the other is just pushing me away.
Now a quick note about comments posted on the previous instalment of this ongoing debate. Yes, I prefer Warframe over Destiny. Yes Warframe is one of the best Free-To-Play titles on the market for both consoles and PC right now. But this does not mean that I hate Destiny. In fact I want to like the game. When I first saw it and got into the beta I fell in love with its design and fighting styles. Its only with prolonged playtime and lack lustre content that has made me realise that for the amount of money I have been spending with the game, I could have saved it entirely by playing Warframe. Destiny was not worth the sixty plus pounds I put into it and I doubt I will ever go back to playing it, which is a shame to say.
So what do you think about Destiny and Warframe? Do you think one is better than the other? Will the new content change your mind? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
