VGU Talks: Deep Silver Cutting Ties With Yager
Dead Island 2, after playing it at the last EGX in London, seemed to be coming along quite nicely. The game had embraced its humour based gameplay and was going to take it to the next level for the next generation consoles. However there has been a recent event that could leave the games development in limbo, at least for the foreseeable future.
Publishers of the game Deep Silver have had a recent dispute with the developers Yager, who had previously worked on Spec Ops: The Line. Due to this they had split up and Yager are no longer working on the game. A shame to hear by any stretch of the means but for a while it was unclear as to why the two had decided to part ways. That was until a couple days later when Yager revealed that it was a matter of different directions they wanted to take the game. Although they did not go into much detail with this, we can imagine which areas of the game may have been compromised by either the developers or publishers.
Although sad to hear, this is not the first time Deep Silver has been known to have mixed opinions on a game with the developers. Techland for example parted ways with the publishers after Dead Island 1 was complete because they wanted to do something that wasn’t agreed with. What has come from those developers since? They went on to create of the best games of this year, Dying Light. It went to show that the team had a fantastic vision for the game and only wanted the go ahead to make it a reality. Is this the similar case for Yager and Deep Silver this time around? Sadly we can only guess at this point.
Here’s to hoping that the developers move on and work on something either similar or inspired from what they wanted to do with Dead Island 2. As for the game itself, I still do hope it comes out to a good standard. Especially since it is the direct competition against Dying Light. Do you think that Dead Island 2’s quality could be compromised due to this split? What are your thoughts on Yager’s future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
