VGU is hiring

That’s right folks you can join the glamorous and exciting world of games journalism…OK it’s not that glamorous or exciting…and journalism is pushing it at times but never the less, VGU is looking for writers to fill the following roles:

News Editor (multiple positions) – You will be tasked with making sure that all the big gaming stories of the moment are on our site. We would need a minimum commitment of 5 news stories a week from you.

High quality writing is a must, especially with regards to spelling and grammar, though previous experience is not necessary if you can prove your writing skills to us. You should be someone with an ear to the ground for the latest gaming news, able to sniff out a story worth writing in an ocean of press releases and forum posts.

Both News and Feature writers at the site share the role of reviewing games and hardware, so you will also be able to write up reviews for the site and will receive review copies if we are able to secure them.

Features Editor (multiple positions) – As a features writer, you will be writing more opinion-based pieces than your colleagues in the news team, as well as some more in depth, researched pieces that delve into the heart of a story. We would need a minimum commitment of 2 features a week from you.

Copy paste no jutsu… High quality writing is a must, especially with regards to spelling and grammar, though previous experience is not necessary if you can prove your writing skills to us.

Features covers a wide range of articles and we prefer our writers to come up with their own ideas. It can be anything from a quick top 5 list to an in-depth analysis of how the FPS genre has changed over the years, and anything in between. Just make it interesting to read and have your arguments be as airtight as possible.

Might as well get this out of the way. We can’t pay you a regular wage and we’re not going to promise that we’ll be able to ‘soon’ because we don’t know in all honesty. We’re working on some things but we don’t want to give anyone false hope. Staff members do however, receive monetary awards on an occasional basis for completing specific tasks such as the most news in a month etc.

You will also have access to review copies of games and gaming hardware on a regular basis. We even review card and board games, so access to those is also on the cards.

Plus we can acquire press passes to events such as Gamescom and EGX, as well as having access to press-only events hosted by publishers.

If you think you fit either of these roles or you have any questions, then give us a shout at jobs@videogamesuncovered.com
