SEGA have recently released a trailer confirmed that the remastered version of Valkyria Chronicles which debuted on the PC in November 2014, will be making its way to PS4 in the West this spring. There is no further news on the date, it is just speculated to be releasing in Spring of this year. In the North America version of the trailer, it is made clear that this will have a physical release, complete with a special steelbook edition which shows all of Squad 7 readying for battle.

In the European version of the announcement trailer, there is no mention of the special steelbook edition, the description of the trailer just reads that a ‘European exclusive physical version’ is coming and that it will be announced very soon. We may be receiving a more detailed limited edition than just the American steelbook case it seems, so watch out all you diehard Valkyria Chronicles fans. The one bit of information which is most notably absent from these trailers, is the fact there is no mention of the Valkyria: Azure Revolution demo access which Japanese players are getting bundled in with this console remaster. Seeing as many Valkyria fans (including myself) are basically buying the remaster a second time just for the purpose of playing the Azure Revolution demo, it seems odd that SEGA are leaving this out of the western releases. We’ll update this story if any news comes out on the Azure Revolution demo coming to the West.

Also, the European trailer makes it seem that this remaster will be primarily sold as a downloadable title and hopefully, it will sport a discount price to match. Seeing as you can buy the PC remaster for about £4 in certain Steam sales, I hope SEGA and Sony price the game suitably, seeing as there is no additional content that seems to be coming along with this remaster, beside all the DLC that Valkyria Chronicles had back on the PS3. I do hope that the combined success of both the PC and now PS4 versions of Valkyria Chronicles means that not only will SEGA remaster the 2nd and 3rd games and release them on current systems, but they will actually release a proper Valkyria Chronicles 4 in the future. As glad as I am that they are continuing the Valkyria series with Azure Revolution, I am not confident in the new action RPG, semi-medieval tone they are going for with it. Hopefully, they’ll prove me wrong and this new direction will be as enjoyable as the core series is.
