It’s unusual for games to truly reflect the gritty issues of the real world in direct and serious ways, but that’s just what Ubisoft Montpellier are offering in upcoming title, Valiant Hearts: The Great War. Announced today to be released digitally on June 25th, you can watch the story trailer for this touching title right here.

Set during World War I and inspired by letters found during the Great War, Valiant Hearts focuses around four strangers who enter the battlefield to help a German soldier. While set in a brutal world full of devastation, the tale is one of survival, sacrifice, and friendship, where brave soldiers, against all the odds, battle for love and honour.

Powered by the UbiArt Framework engine, like the recent Ubisoft Montreal release Child of Light, Valiant Hearts is presented as an animated comic with sketchy and raw designs.Taking the form of a 2D side-scroller, the game will be full of traditional puzzles which will vary depending on which character you are playing as.

No doubt a heart-warming but tragic tale, treading the line between despair and hope, Valiant Hearts: The Great War looks to be the next big title that will take us on an emotional ride and maybe hit a little closer to home than we’re used to.
