Ubisoft phasing out online pass system

Currently there is an online feature on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that means players need the Uplay Passport code so they can interact with multiple players on console or through the game’s companion app.

“…we listen to our community and understand that there are concerns over some players’ ability to access this feature, so we have decided to eliminate the cost of the Uplay Passport for Black Flag.” Gary Steinman, the games Communication Manager posted on the Ubiblog.

Those who do not currently own the Uplay Passport for Black Flag will be able to download it for free via Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network in order to play Edward’s Fleet.

“…games today are blurring the line between offline and online, between what is ‘single player’ and what is ‘multiplayer’.” Steinman wrote. “Based on that and on the feedback we received from you, we recognized that Passport is no longer the best approach for ensuring that all our customers have the best possible experience with all facets of our games.”

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is available now for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
