Thief Mantle Support Delayed Until March

by on February 23, 2014

At launch, the PC version of Eidos-Montreal’s Thief reboot will lack support for AMD’s new API, Mantle. Support for Mantle will come through a patch aimed for release in March.

Posted by Valerie Bourdeau on the Eidos-Montreal community blog, it was stated:

“we are busy working on a patch to support AMD’s Mantle and TrueAudio technologies that is scheduled for March…We’re sorry we couldn’t bring this to you sooner – although we will use this time to bring you the very best experience possible and will let you know when the patch is ready.”

Mantle was originally promised to be supported at launch, but, things were presumably more time consuming than previously thought.

For those list in the technical jargon, API, or Application Programming Interface, is how applications work together, as well as how it allocates resources. The new Mantle API being rolled out by AMD is meant to use AMD CPU and GPU more effectively, meaning more fun for all – in theory.

So if you want to play an more thoroughly optimized version of Thief on AMD hardware, March is the month you will have to wait for. Then again, there are some who would argue that having a patch already planned for an unreleased game is a sign of things to come.

Thief will be out on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC February 25 in NA and 28 in Eu.
