Stick of Truth Censored Scenes Removed From Discs

South Park: The Stick of Truth has come into sticky mess with its pre-release for censoring a few scenes for EU regions. An Associate Producer working on the game took to Reddit to explain why, and reveals the content has been removed entirely from the disc to avoid a “Hot Coffee situation.”

Under the Reddit username walgiz, the Ubisoft Associate Producer wrote to the /r/Gaming Sub-Reddit:

“I’m the Associate Producer on the game for Ubisoft. We did make a separate version just for Germany/Austria. There’s actually 5 versions: North/South America, Europe, Germany, Australia, and Russia. Only the North/South American one is completely uncensored on every platform. The Australian one is censored on all platforms, the European and Russian ones are censored on console only, and the German one is censored on console for anal probing etc as shown in this screenshot, and censored on both console and PC for swastikas, Heil Hitler arm salutes, etc.”

The scenes affected are:

  • A mini-game where the doctor performs and abortion on the player.
  • A mini-game in which the player performs and abortion on character Randy.
  • Five anal probing scenes involving a character being actively probed.

The screenshots referenced in the post is the title card players see instead of the censored scenes, which is now making its way around Reddit.

“To avoid a “Hot Coffee” type situation, the 20-second-or-so gameplay/cutscene is removed completely from the disc and replaced with the screen you see at the link (times 6 more 20-second scenes)” Walgiz writes in response to user questions.

He also states how Ubisoft has tried and failed to release the uncensored version in Australia ,“We tried twice, got “Refused Classification”, which means we couldn’t sell in AU.”

What do you feel about the censorship? Would you not expect these types of scenes to appear in a South Park game? Or do you think the scenes would be a step too far? Let us know in the comments.
