Square Enix Streaming Service Taken Offline

Square Enix’s game streaming service, Core Online, has been taken down after just 18 months, according to the company.

The announcement came through the publisher’s support page stating that Core Online “was released as an experiment to see what demand there would be for HD games played via the browser. However, due to limited commercial take-up of this initiative, Core Online closed on Friday 29th November 2013.”

Core Online allowed users to stream games through their browser and included the option to buy games, play titles for free for 20 minutes per day or pay a monthly subscription.

Those who have paid upfront for their subscription will receive a full refund for their most recent subscription payment.
