Sony Releases The PlayStation App

Sony has today released the official PlayStation App for iOS and Android devices.

The app allows users to sign into the their PSN accounts and view their profile, trophies, friends lists, and browse the store to look for their next download. The app will crucially allow the mobile device to be used as part of a second-screen experience on certain PS4 games, such as being able to draw something on the device’s screen and then bringing it to life in The Playroom.

The interaction with the PS4 is the main draw of the app, which is  obviously going to be very bare-bones until the PS4 launches. Players will be notified of when PS4 players who press the share button start broadcasting, and the app will open Twitch.tv so you can start watching them.

The app lets you use your mobile device as a way of turning the PS4 on and off, as well as a keyboard if you ever need to enter text.

What do you think? Have you downloaded the PlayStation App? Will you be taking advantage of its interaction with the PS4? Let us know in the comments below.
