The ICO (Information Commissioners Office) recently tweeted that Sony has confirmed that they will not be appealing the £250,000 penalty after the “serious DPA breach” in 2011, despite Sony claiming that they would fully appeal the breach as it was a “focused and determined criminal attack” on their system.

Now however Sony are giving the appeal up offering this statement:

“After careful consideration we are withdrawing our appeal. This decision reflects our commitment to protect the confidentiality of our network security from disclosures in the course of the proceeding. We continue to disagree with the decision on the merits.”

Just a reminder…

The ICO are pleased with this decision:

“We welcome Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited’s decision not to appeal our penalty notice following a serious breach of the Data Protection Act.”
