SNK Pulls the Plug On Neo-Geo X

SNK Playmore has pulled the plug on the Neo Geo X.

Released in December 2012, this collector’s item is an homage to the classic Neo Geo console, which played host to such games as Metal Slug and the King of Fighters series in the 1990’s.

Like most retro consoles, those who owned it loved it, and SNK allowed them to go on a nostalgia trip when they released the Neo Geo X, which came pre-loaded with 20 of its classic games. SNK also released an arcade stick for the console,  production of which is also being halted.

The termination order with the manufacturer, Tommo Inc., also includes the Neo Geo X handheld system, which was also released alongside the Neo Geo X. It looks like this collector’s item just got a whole lot more collectible.

It seems like poor old SNK could never quite get a grip on the home console market, and this announcement would probably make this the last piece of hardware that SNK produce, bringing a chapter of gaming loved by those who experienced it to a quiet close.
