Shaq Fu 2 developers promise not to “FU it up”

You know when you look back to the 90’s and think “Wow, what were we thinking? We would never do that nowadays.” Well Big Deez Productions, for better or worse, are choosing to ignore this phenomenon.

Joining boy band Take That and children’s cartoon My Little Pony, Shak Fu is set to be the latest thing to be dragged two decades forward through time onto your TV screen. Following the infamous 1994 beat ’em up Shaq Fu; a game that is critically damned as one of the worst ever Sega Megadrive titles; Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn aims to bring a different style of game to modern platforms.

“There are two, and only two, similarities between our Shaq Fu, and the abomination that was born in the nineties: The name, and the starring character.” ~ Big Deez Productions

Described as “Streets of Rage meets Street Fighter meets Devil May Cry, the sequel looks to ditch the beat ’em up genre in favour of a level based combo-masher in which phrases like “Shaq attack” are likely to pop up all over the screen. Here’s a teaser trailer and some screens to give you a rough idea.

So why can’t Shaq fund it himself? The developers claim that he can, but they are gauging how much interest there is for the project while offering a variety of perks from “the big man” for those willing to put up the cash. So how much interest are we talking here? The minimum goal for the PC version alone is $450,000 with more platforms added with each stretch goal, ending with PS4 and Xbox One requiring a whopping $1,620,000 worth of pledges.

So if you’re interested in the game, or for some reason want Shaq to send you an awkward 20 second video on Youtube, feel free to slam-dunk your cash into the crowd-fund coffer at the indiegogo site.
