Rust Creator Gary Outlines His ‘Mind-Map’

Rusts creator reveals some loose plans for the future of the game in his mind map of development.

Rust is one of the weirder Survival Craft games available at the moment. While originally having zombies, Rust moved away from that idea as too many other games have cursed themselves with the zombie genre. Instead you must survive against other players in the form of naked cavemen wielding rocks, or boars and bears.

After a recent overhaul to the games entire structure, and many dev blogs outlining small ideas here and there, we have finally been blessed with a ‘guide’ of sorts. Some devs like to outline their plans in a roadmap explaining everything that we can expect in the game under development, but Garry doesn’t want such a rigid structure. In a recent dev blog, Garry newman explained that “I don’t want us to feel tied down to features and timescale. We’re hobbyists at heart – we’re not a game factory – we don’t need that kind of pressure.”

His answer to so many fans pleads for an idea of what to expect is his own “mind-map”.  Put simply, if they could achieve all the items in the Mind-Map, we would certainly have a very interesting and no doubt fun game on out hands, but as Garry has said himself, not all ideas will be followed through with, and we should approach this as guidelines of what to expect rather than a rule book. All this and more can be found in the relevant Dev Blog.

In the most recent blog post, outlined is plans for buildings have submerged in the ground with the concept of hidden treasures at the bottom of said buildings, as well as a couple of survivor stories and videos.
