2K Games and Gearbox are running a Borderlands Animation project

2K Games and Gearbox Software have partnered up with the Academy of Art University for a new project. The Borderlands Cooperative is a development project for students, where they are required to create a short film based on the Borderlands universe.

Students participating will receive guidance from university professors and industry personnel, and will produce an animated short to be available by the end of 2013. By running this Gearbox and 2K Games hope to provide students the opportunity for career development and networking.

During the contest students will form teams and create original shorts and storyboards set in the Borderlands universe, and the winning story will form the basis of a short film and “become part of the Borderlands mythos”. The team will be given internships at 2K Games (which is an amazing opportunity).

Gearbox President Randy Pitchford says “We are thrilled that our Borderlands universer has inspired so much creativity. We are happy to offer the Academy of Art University access to our digital assets so that its students creativity can be harnessed into positive career development efforts and, if we’re lucky, the creation of some great content that every Borderlands fan can enjoy.”
