PS4 Will Support HDMI Capture Via Post-Launch Patch

Sony have confirmed via Twitter that the PS4 will be able to capture from HDMI using PVRs. This is good news for players who want to capture footage from their consoles and upload the footage to Youtube for their Let’s Plays or walkthrough videos, whic have become popular in recent years.

Last week, we reported on consumers’ fears concerning PS4 video capture. Gamers were worried that PS4 video capture through HDMI would be impossible due to HDCP – the removal of which requires a potentially illegal operation on the machine. There wasn’t such a problem with the PS3 as that console had component-out, which the PS4 won’t support – potentially meaning no ps4 game play legally allowed on Youtube.  However, the recent announcements from Tokyo Game Show should put those fears to rest.

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida answered a user question on Twitter confirming that the feature will become available post-launch via a downloaded patch.

Brad Douglas, head of third party relations for PS4 also said more details will be coming.
