“Playstation Remix” Could Be Sony’s Game Streaming Service

Sony has always promised some form of game-streaming capabilities ever since the console was revealed in February last year, covering that much-discussed backwards compatibility that many gamers feel a console should have. I Game Responsibly reports that this ambition is getting closer to reality thanks to the reveal of a patent Sony has filed called “Playstation Remix”.

With the full title of “Suspending State of Cloud-Based Legacy Applications”, Sony sounds like they’re trying to provide a service in which players can play a PS2 or PS3 game via the cloud, probably on a PS4 (the Vita is also mentioned), but with new mini-games or other extra stuff added in. How that pans out is still a mystery, but the use of the phrase “mini-games” in multiple scenarios throughout the document suggests we won’t be fighting a 17th Colossus or resurrecting Aeris.

The patent could suggest a reveal from Sony soon, but such a service does sound interesting. You can read the full document here, and remember to let us know what you think in the comments below.
